A Proposal for the Detection of Mother Molecules in Comets by Their Microwave Lines

A general proposal is made for radio detection of molecular transitions in comets. The importance of detecting cometary molecules is outlined and past attempts to observe comets with radio telescopes are discussed briefly. Relevant points for choice and observation of a comet and selection of a radio telescope are summarized. Tables of pertinent data for interesting molecules with known transitions in the microwave range are suitably prepared for rapid access when a specific proposal for observation of a selected comet is to be made.
