LABORATORY PROCEDURES FOR THE ANALYSIS OF BLOOD LIPIDS

This report brings together for scientists and tech¬nicians a complete detailed description of the procedure used in the author's laboratory for the analysis of blood lipids. The complete procedure includes a number of published procedures from this and other laboratories, with many modifications and details not previously published. The overall procedure includes the quantitative analysis of the phospholipids of red cells and plasma and the neutral lipids of plasma, and the determination of their fatty acid compositions. The red-cell cholesterol is also analyzed quantita¬tively. The procedures for lipid separation by thin-layer chromatography as used in this laboratory are described in detail.
