Chicken Study Chronic Toxicity Studies on Irradiated Strawberries Volume 8

A two year feeding study was conducted employing beagle dogs which were fed diets based on a commercial feed. A control group (CG) received the basal diet. Three groups received diets supplemented with 35% freeze dried strawberries. An Experimental Control Group (ECG) received unirradiated berries, a Low Level Test Group (LLTG) received berries irra-diated, with 150, 000 rads and a High Level Test Group (HLTG) received berries irradiated with 300, 000 rads. Diets were supplemented to maintain an adequate nutritional level. Body weight, food consumption, and clinical data were collected during the study. A single mating reproduction study was conducted employing the males and females of the two year study and raising the offspring to weaning. At termination, animals were examined grossly, organ weight data noted, and tissues examined histo logically.
