Moduli and thermal-expansion data at high temperature were obtained on a series of sintered molybdenum-uranium oxide cermets as part of an investigation aimed at developing models for predicting the mechanical behavior of porous cermet nuclear fuels. The study indicates that the development of models for predicting the creep behavior and thus the fission-product-induced swelling of these cermets will be extremely complex, and that the development of models for such porous cermets will require an extensive experimental program.
