摘要

We propose to measure small angle p-p scattering by using a thin foil and a hydrogen jet target to intercept a small fraction of the beam without interference with the acceleration process. The measurements are based on the detection of the slow recoil proton and will yield the energy dependence of (a) the slope of the p-p nuclear diffraction peak, (b) the real part of the nuclear scattering amplitude, (c) the diffractive excitation of isobars. The proposed technique is energy independent and will provide data over the entire energy region from 25 GeV to the highest energy achieved by NAL. Total accelerated beam intensities of 10{sup 11} to 10{sup 12} protons/pulse are quite adequate. The equipment is presently under development and could be fully operational by June 1971.
