FREQUENCY RESPONSE OF ANALOGUE TO DIGITAL CONVERSION WITH SIGNAL AVERAGING

An analogue signal which is to be digitized for subsequent processing on digital computers, may be averaged during the inter sample time between the analogue to digital conversions in a variety of ways.nOne well known process which is not considered here, is that in which low pass signal filtering is obtained by continuously averaging over the immediately past T seconds, all previous history being eliminated.nThis note considers the process where a signal is averaged in various ways over successive intervals of T seconds, and digitized. The digitized signal will predominate in low frequency signal components, that is, the averaging and conversion will have been equivalent to the original analogue signal having passed through a filter with a low pass characteristic.
