摘要

An apparatus has been constructed to investigate energy transfer and chemical reactions at the gas-surface interface and the mechanisms of gas-solid interactions. Low energy electron diffraction and Auger electron spectroscopy were employed to characterize the surface structure and the chemical composition of the solid and the adsorbed layer. A thermal molecular beam provided gaseous species at a predetermined angle of incidence with respect to the surface normal and a quadrupole mass spectrometer detected the angular distributions of the incident and scattered beams.
