A series of air entrainment tests was performed on the Outlet Feature Model of the FFTF during the period from October 1969 to June 1970. The geometrically scaled model used water as the modeling medium. Similarity analysis, using principally the Froude and Weber numbers was performed to relate the test results to the FFTF sodium coolant. Visual and ultrasonic techniques, fully described in this final report, were used to study the air entrainment in the reactor model outlet pool and carry-under into the coolant exit pipes. The model configuration and coolant pool height were varied to determine their effect on air entrainment. The test results, reported here, established the optimum elevation of the outlet nozzles, and the minimum pool height that allows operation without air entrainment. The final configuration with the vortex suppression plate in place reduced air entrainment to zero.
