Factors Involving Secretion Rates and Utilization Rates of Thyroid Hormones Using Iodine-131 as a Tracer

Several objectives of the research conducted under this contract have been fulfilled. An important objective was the determination of a relationship between thyroid hormone secretion rate and lactation. In terms of cross observations, it has long been known that thyroidectomy severely impairs milk production while replacement therapy ameliorates the symptoms of thyroid removal to the point that lactation is virtually restored to normal.
