This paper presents shock compres¬sion data and Hugoniot melting points for the elements. These data are 'compiled in the form of computerized plots, with iso¬thermal and x-ray static compression data included for comparison. A first- order theory of shock compression including an estimate for the melting point on the Hugoniot curve is given. The ele¬ments are classified according to melting types, and electronic shell correlations for the material parameters are shown.
