摘要

Linear theory accounts for only the gross features of inertial navigation system (INS) performance. In parti¬cular the rates of error growth, and the rates of change of those rates, can be accounted for only by allowing for system nonlinearities. Schuler (84 min) oscillations are well accounted for by the known nonlinearities. To account for the de¬tailed history of the diurnal (24 hr) oscillations it has been found necessary to postulate a hitherto unsuspected but entirely plausible hysteresis effect in the vertical (Z) gyro.
