摘要

During the last 9 years the work supported by AEC contract No. AT(11-1) 1285 covered two major areas:n1) The interaction of the human body with blood-group related endotoxins (LPS) from gram-negative bacteria.n2) Prevention of endotoxin attachment to cell surface structures. Many gram-negative bacteria, e.g., E. coli 086, administered via natural routes induced in humans blood-group isoantibodies A and B, thus strongly favoring the immunogenic origin of these so-called "natural isoantibodies".nWe studied the chemical basis for the B activity of LPS from E. coli O86 and found them to be of a structure similar to blood-group B-active oligosaccharides of human origin. Nevertheless there were some important differences.
