Table 1 presents a summary of the information discussed elsewhere in this report and provides a gross comparison of the three candidate firing attitudes. However, it should be recognized that the comparative evaluation shown are in many cases ROM evaluations since a detailed trade study of the total considerations of firing attitude had not yet been performed during the NERVA Program. The comparisons indicate that the reactor considerations point to vertical testing while facility and cost considerations point to horizontal. In the end, the final decision is a compromise of all factors.
