CONTROL OF ACCESS IN SYSTEMS WITH DYNAMICALLY CREATED OBJECTS

For critical systems which must function for long periods, it is important to be able to control subsystems, to change their functioning or to facilitate recovery from error. Control in this case means the ability to create, destroy or modify subsystems effectively. This paper examines three general methods of organising the naming linkages between components in a computer system, so that effective control is possible. The paper then examines the application of these principles to the organisation of naming for specific types of objects in a computer system, such as peripherals or data tables.
