A RAPID AND RELIABLE METALLOGRAPHIC TECHNIQUE FOR SILVER

A reliable and rapid metallographic preparation procedure for silver is described. The metallographic sample need only be ground through 600-grit (soft) silicon carbide paper, followed by an electrolytic lap-polish to remove the flowed metal. A chemical etch is then used to resolve the grain structure in fine detail. There are no artifacts or evidence of prior preparation steps, and the true grain structure is achieved in a minimum of time.
