THEORY AND APPLICATION OF CONTINUOUS MONITORING FOR CHEMICAL RESEARCH IN NATURAL WATER SYSTEMS

Natural water monitoring can be divided by objectives into two main categories: pollution detection and basic research. Pollution monitor¬ing measures parameters (l) that can be used to determine water quality. Monitoring for basic research collects data useful for determining the composition and nature of a water system. Equipment and procedures are in difficult to maintain under field condition. Some automated basic research water monitoring has been done in ocean water, using specially designed instruments and adapted commercial equipment to measure only a few of the desired parameters.
