摘要

A simple mathematical model of a metal alloy casting process was developed in the form of a describing difference equation with related boundary and initial conditions and incorporated in a FORTRAN IV computer program. This computer program--given mold geometry, mold properties, alloy properties, and initial conditions—calculates time-dependent tempera ture distributions of the mold and melt and the time-dependent location of the liquid-solid interface in the melt.nThe ability of the program to accurately model the casting system was verified experimentally. The location and general shape of the concentration of vacancies in the actual casting is identical to the model predicted location of the solid-liquid interface at a point in time when 90 percent of the melt is solidified. This seemed reasonable since there is about a7 to 10 percent volume shrinkage between pour temperature and room temperature.
