RECOVERY OF SPERMATOGONIA IN RAT TESTES AFTER DEPLETION BY SINGLE AND FRACTIONATED X-RAY EXPOSURES

The purpose of this experimental study was to compare histologically the extent of radiation damage and the mechanisms or sources of recovery of somniferous epithelium of rats after depletion of this epithelium by single and fractionated X-ray exposures. Adult male Albino rats were given either single exposure doses of 900 R, 1200 R, 1500 R, 1800 R or 2100 R, or fractionated exposures of 6 R, 10 R, 20 R or 40 R/day up to a total accumulated dose of 1200 R. Each animal was killed and examined grossly and histologically at a particular time up to 6 months post-irradiation.
