摘要

Evaluation was made of, effects of heated effluents on fish communities in a series of cooling reservoirs at the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission's Savannah River Plant, Aiken, South Carolina. Most research was conducted in a 76 hectare reservoir (Pond C) and a 1,120 hectare reservoir (Par Pond). Water temperatures in parts of the smaller reservoir sometimes exceeded 50 C. About 10 percent of the large reservoir's total surface area is altered thermally. The reservoirs have received heated water over a 14 year period. Fishing has never been permitted.
