SOME PREDICTED EARTH ACCELERATION SIGNALS, AND PROSPECTS FOR REMOVING THE INHERENT DISTORTION THROUGH DATA TREATMENT

This report summarizes results of a study that predicts the response of some typical accelerometers mounted in a buried container which is subjected to earth motion following an underground explosion. Acceleration signal distortion resulting from inherently imperfect earth-to-container coupling is illustrated for acceleration rise times up to 100 microseconds. A procedure for the deconvolution of data—which reconstructs the true ground motion from the distorted signal--is suggested.
