Filament wound, carbon-carbon, composite tubular speci¬mens were tested to failure by internal pressurlzation of a compliant, rubber bladder. When the specimen length exceeded the bladder length, significant strength increases were measured relative to those measured when the specimen length was equal to or less than the bladder length. A stress analysis is performed to study the effects of this material overhang on strength meas¬urement variations -sing Laplace transform techniques. An explanation for and discussion of the strength variation is included. Optimum specimen design criteria are presented which minimize data falsification and material consumption.
