A respirator is essential for the protection of individuals encountering an atmosphere of hazardous particulates. The protective value is based primarily on the ability of the respirator to exclude airborne hazards, such as radioactive or toxic particulates, from being inhaled by personnel.nIn this report we do not discuss chemical contaminants because they require other protective considerations.nAfter considerable investigation, which included contacting other AEC contractors and persons knowledgeable of respiratory equipment, the described method was developed as a standard for testing at Rocky Flats Division of Dow Chemical U.S.A.
