An inexpensive yet accurate pressure gauge was designed making use of the relationship between the peak pressure of a single-step rise shock loading and the permanent plastic deformation of thin foil membranes when subjected to shock loading。 The gauge is of extremely simple design, is easy to use, and requires no electronic equipment. Peak shock over¬pressures from a few psi to hundreds of psi can be measured to about 10% accuracy. The relevant theory of shock loading of thin foil membranes is presented, the calibration procedure using a shock tube is given, and the results of experimental field tests are given and compared to standard shock over¬pressure measurements.
