HTGR GAS TURBINE POWER PLANT CONTROL, SAFETY, AND MAINTENANCE STUDIES SEMIANNUAL PROGRESS REPORT FOR THE PERIOD JULY 1, 1972, THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 1972

This report presents the results of control, safety, and maintenance studies for the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) gas turbine power plant. The work, which was sponsored by the United States Atomic Energy Commission, represents the first phase of a preliminary design program for this new power generation concept. A parallel program, dealing with compo¬nent design and plant arrangement, was sponsored by a group of electric utility companies. The results of the utility program are reported in detail in another report and are summarized herein.nExtensive steady-state and transient performance analyses are described, and the two computer programs used to perform these analyses are documented in the appendixes. The performance results are discussed in terms of control system selection and a specific control concept is recommended for further study.
