SUMMARY OF A MEETING ON NON-ELECTRICAL ENERGY EXTRACTION FROM FUSION REACTION REACTORS AT AEC GERMANTOWN HEADQUARTERS

A fusion reactor represents a unique source of high-intensity neutron and radiation fluxes, as well as a reactor of a unique high-energy density plasma. The purpose of the present meeting was to discuss possible uses of these energy forms for other than the production of electricity. Five areas were discussed in some detail:n1. Materials’ processingn2. Hydrogen productionn3. Plasma chemistry and radiation processingn4. Coherent and broad-band radiation productionn5. Neutron applications.
