The interest in studying the solutions of (1) derives from the so-called "Easier Waring Problem." The results of the present study— completed more than 10 years ago - are negative in the sense that they do not tend to confirm the conjecture. Of course, nothing definitive can be said on the basis of such limited calculations. The principal results are (a) for 0 < |d| ≤ 999 (and, of course, d # 4, 5 (mod 9) ) there are 70 values of |d| for which no solutions exist (the smallest case is |d| = 30);(b) no new parametric families of solutions (such as exist for d = 2, d = 128) were discovered;(c) no new solutions were found for |d| = 3 .
