The report reflects the observations and conclusions of the authors drawn from field trips and from discussions with operating personnel and consists of a series of photographs and discussions which illustrate specific features of ESF air cleaning systems viewed. Where possible, the discussions have been correlated with ORNL-NSIC-65 and Regulatory Guide 1.52. The report illustrates the attention required in ESF air cleaning systems to seismic and structural considerations, maintainability, testability, and reliability. Certain features and practices which do not lend them¬selves to photographic treatment, although observed during the site visits, are covered in the text. It should be emphasized that the systems viewed in this report were designed and constructed prior to the issuance of Regulatory Guide 1.52. The critique of these systems in terms of Regulatory Guide 1.52 is merely to illustrate the recommenda¬tions in the Guide.
