摘要

The work described here was carried out as part of an overall assess¬ment of the costs and risks associated with electrical energy production by nuclear and fossil power plants. The results of the overall assessment were reported in WASH-1224, and this appendix provides greater detail on one aspect of the comparisons between nuclear and fossil fuel cycles.nThis study attempted to estimate the energy expended at each step in the fuel cycle for each of several power plant types, per unit of net electrical energy delivered to the average consumer outside the system. The studies covered the Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR), Boiling Water Reactor (BWR), coal, oil, and gas-fired power plants.
