A number of large sodium valve designs for various applications were described by the delegates. There was a great diversity of approaches by the different countries in the application of valves, the selection of concepts, and in the detailed designs of similar concepts (e.g. butterfly valves). Examples of the diversity in concept selection are the UK poppet valve, the UK IHX sleeve valve, and the US "Garden Gate" valve. As a result of the many different approaches pursued by the different countries, generalizations in design approach were difficult to formulate.
