An economical method for injection molding of small prototype thermoplastic components was developed by Monsanto Research Corporation component development engineers at Mound Laboratory, Miamisburg, Ohio. Mold cavity inserts for two small injection molding machines were used to produce a variety of miniature thermoplastic components. One inch and one-half inch diameter mold inserts greatly reduced mold costs and mold delivery time. This method of mold fabrication fulfills a need for low cost, low volume, small components when required in the development of products.
