Current power plant economy studies require a level of cost data accu¬racy better than that obtainable from a single dollars per MWe number. However, the full detail of individual plants calculated by the best avail¬able techniques would be too complex and too time-consuming. Described here are the results of a series of detailed calculations chosen such that the mathematical dependence of the plant capital costs can be elucidated to at least first order. The following independent variables are considered: 1) the geographical location of the plant; 2) the type of cooling system; 3) the year that design and construction began; 4) the length of time in construction; 5) the cost of selling the bonds to provide capital; and 6) the maximum power level of the plant.
