Least-Squares Fits to Wind Profiles Measured over Snow

Based on least squares fits by logarithmic functions, it is found that wind profiles measured over snow represent aerodynamically smooth or rough flow, depending on whether the snow cover is deep or thin and intermittent. The relation between friction velocity and the one-meter wind speed for the smooth flows is in good agreement with that previously found from measurements over a smooth water surface.
