Stress Corrosion Cracking in Quenched and Underaged U-6Wt.% NB.

Two types of stress corrosion cracking occur in U--6wt percent Nb. Intergranular (anodic dissolution) cracking occurs in aqueous Cl exp -environments. Transgranular (oxide stress rupture) cracking occurs in gaseous environments containing oxygen. Aging the quenched alloy at 200exp 0 C for 2hours increases the yield strength but only slightly lowers the stress corrosion cracking threshold. (auth).
