MEASUREMENT OF THE NORMAL LEVELS OF CADMIUM, COPPER, LEAD, MANGANESE, AND ZINC IN SELECTED BIOLOGICAL MATERIALS

Chemical preparation in conjunction with anion exchange con-centration and atomic absorption spectrophotometry was used to determine the normal levels of cadmium, copper, lead, manganese, and zinc in samples of powdered milk, wheat flour, dried potatoes, and bone ash. NBS Standard Reference Material, SRM 1571 Orchard Leaves was used for method development and also for internal quality control. Sample preparation methods, ion exchange parameters and blank measurements are discussed. The results of analysis are compared with the results from other laboratories.
