Two Dimensional Mhd Modeling of Compressed Magnetic Field Generators. I. The Magnetic Field Solver

An effort to construct a 2-D magnetohydrodynamics code to study the dynamics of compressed magnetic field (CMF) generators has begun. This report describes the magnetic field solver portion of the code. The solver employs variable zoning designed to provide resolution with a minimum number of meshes, and incorporates flux-corrected transport to reduce spurious numerical diffusion. Comparisons with analytic results for 1-D test cases are presented, as well as 2-D results from a test of a ''realistic'' generator configuration.
