GEOLOGY OF NORTHERN FRENCHMAN FLAT, NEVADA TEST SITE

A special geologic and geophysical study of the northern part of Frenchman Flat yielded considerable detailed information on the Stratigraphy and structure of that area. In general, the rocks are similar to those of Yucca Flat, except that the rocks of Frenchman Flat include relatively high-density and high-velocity alluvium at depths of 500-1,000 feet, and a greater proportion of dense tuff units, mainly welded tuff. Basalt lava flows are intercalated in the highvelocity alluvium. The Thirsty Canyon Tuff, an important stratigraphic marker, has been identified for the first time in this part of the Test Site.
