USERDA Division of Electric Power Transmission and Distribution DC Superconducting Power Transmission Line Project at LASL October 1 through December 31, 1974

The eighth progress report of the Los Alamos los alamos Scientific Laboratory dc Superconducting Power Transmission Line (SPTL) Development Project covers the period October 1 to December 31, 1974. Short sample critical currents are reported for several Nb3Sn superconductors including two multifilament samples. A correlation between the critical current den¬sity at 4 K and the thickness of the Nb3Sn layer in commercial tapes is examined. A program to study various aspects of line stability has been initiated in conjunction with the 20-m test bed operation. The effects of certain processing parameters on the superconducting properties of Nb3Ge and Nb3Sn are discussed.
