FRAGMENTATION OF SINGLE-PARTICLE STATES IN DEFORMED NUCLEI

The fragmentation of single-particle atates is studied in the framework of the model based on the account of quasipar-ticle-phonon interaction by the exanple of 233U and 169Ei nuclei. The dependence of fragmentation on the position of the single-particle level with respect to the Perai surface is investigated. It is shown that in the dis¬tribution of the single-particle strength in addition to a large asymmetric maximum, there appears at high excitation energies a second maximum, and the distribution itself has a long tail. A fundamentally new seni-microecopic aethod of cal¬culating the neutron strength functions which is based on single-particle fragmentation is suggested. The following values for the strength functions for 239U Scal =1.2x10 -and Scal = 2.7x10 * and for 119Ei S=1x10-4 andnSKOL = 1.2x10-4 are obtained which are in satisfactory ag-reeaent with experinent. In the case of 169Ei. it is shown that if the 4s1/2 subshell contribution is excluded from the single-particle wave functions then Scal decreases by a factor of 20 and corresponds to the value of the strength function in the range of its minimum.
