When a prompt diagnostic signal of the type recorded in underground nuclear tests is fed into a chain of OS-40amplifiers linked in series,it is not recorded exactly the same from one oscilloscope to the next. This report describes a study in which a particular configuration of OS-40oscilloscopes was used to record simulated alpha signals ranging from 2000to more than 4000mu sec exp -1and pulses having a FWHM of approximately 10nsec. Alpha values of less than or equal to 2000mu sec exp -1were recorded adequately by the stacked oscilloscopes,whereas for alpha values of 4000mu sec exp -1and greater,serious degradation in the data was observed on all but the first scope in the chain. Peak width studies seem to indicate some broadening in the recorded FWHM the farther one proceeds along the oscillator chain.
