摘要

Over the past two years a generalized computer-based decision analysis model has been developed and tested at Battelle, Pacific Northwest Laboratories. This model resulted from research sponsored by the Energy Research and Development Administration, Department of Waste Management and Transportation. The goal was to provide a decision analysis tool capable of supplying inform¬ation useful in selecting future research needs relative to long-term disposal of high-level radioactive nuclear wastes.nSeveral alternative concepts for ultimate disposal have already been developed; however, significant research is still required before any of these can be implemented. Each of the alternative concepts has its own short-term and long-term safety-related impacts as well as its specific costs. Differ¬ences also exist among the concepts in their ability to detect a system failure (leakage of waste into man's environment) and to protect man from the consequences of such a leakage.
