摘要

Proteins, nucleic acids, pigments, carbohydrates, ribosomes, chromatin, and membranes can be extracted from deuterated microorganisms. These deuterated materials extend the power of techniques such as nuclear magnetic and electron spin resonance spectroscopy, neutron scattering, and infrared and Raman spectroscopy. Methods of culturing deuterated organisms are discussed with regard to water in biosynthesis and deuteration with organic substrates. Some of the organisms used were the bacteria Escherichia coli, Rhodospirillum rubrum, and Halobacterium halobium, and the algae Synecliococcus and Scenedesmus. (ERA citation 02:053042)
