The dependence of the shape of neutron capture gamma -ray spectra on the averaging interval size has been investigated for the exp 181Ta (n,gamma ) reaction. The effects of statistical fluctuations in the partial radiation widths are discussed. The change in the spectral shape as a function of neutron energy is presented.
