摘要

During the last decade, the utility industry has seen a dramatic increase in the size, complexity, and cost of electric generating units. The price of the fuels that these units require has tripled in five years, and the public has become more concerned about the safety and environmental impact of electricity generation. These factors have imposed greater demands upon the power-plant instrumentation and control systems and upon the operating personnel to increase plant availability, efficiency, and safety. In response to these growing requirements, the instrumentation and control systems are expanding in size and complexity, automation is being introduced, and there is increasing use of computers and cathode-ray tubes (CRT) for the assimilation and presentation of plant information.
