摘要

The major air contaminant for most large urban areas in the U.S. continues to be photochemical oxidants caused by atmospheric reactions of hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen in sunlight. Carbon monoxide and suspended particulate matter also continues to cause concern. Problems caused by other emissions such as lead, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide are not as severe.nEmissions from motor vehicles account for the greatest portions of hydrocarbon, oxides of nitrogen, and carbon monoxide emissions. Industry and agriculture are responsible for most of the man-made particulate matter in the atmosphere.
