MASS TRANSPORT IN DEAD-END TUBES WITH SELECTIVELY PERMEATING WALLS

The transport of gaseous species in dead-end tubes having selectively permeating walls is investigated. The limits of validity for the modeling assumptions used are established and are given in terms of a series of inequalities involving the key parameters. Detailed analytical results are generated via exact limiting solutions as well as numerical integration of the governing equations for both positive and negative global velocity cases. Tube materials having specie separation ratios varying from unity to very large or very small values are included in the study. The resulting effective separation ratio for a tube may be either greater or less than that for the tube material in slab form.
