Spectroscopic Study of an Argon Plasmajet Out of Local Thermodynamic Equilibrium

These plumes are thus well adapted for experimental study of the neutral argon lines;the continuum spectrum, emitted proportional to N²e, is not intense, thus permitting the study of a large number of AI lines that are difficult to observe conveniently at high electron densities, so high that their Stark broadening is large and their intensity is small in comparison to the background continuum. On the other hand, one can easily measure the widths and shifts of certain lines that are emitted from elevated states and that are very sensitive to the Stark effect.
