DEVELOPMENT OF SODIUM-SULFUR BATTERIES FOR UTILITY APPLICATION

This report describes the results obtained during the past year of a multi-year program which has as its goal the development of a sodium-sulfur bat¬tery system for bulk storage of energy. The emphasis of the program has been to demonstrate that the necessary long life, high capacity, and high efficiency can be obtained from the sodium-sulfur system using economical materials and practical fabrication methods. During the past year, while accelerating work on testing and study of small cells, new programs were initiated on module and system design.
