Status Report on the Measurement of Vapor--Liquid Equilibria

Hydrogen-rich binary and multicomponent systems are being studied by two different approaches: (1) A perturbation chromatographic approach developed at Rice University over the years, and; (2) An equilibrium cell which can be operated in either the flow or batch mode. Apparatus components for (1) are being purchased, designed-constructed at Rice, and moved from other parts of the Rice University Thermodynamic--Transport properties laboratory to assemble the apparatus. One significant result which will result from the application of the apparatus being assembled will be a study of the interfacial region in which chemical reactions begin. The chromatographic studies will be primarily directed towards infinite dilution and multicomponent vapor-liquid equilibrium studies consisting of mixtures comprised of hydrogen, polar inorganic, light hydrocarbon, and poly-aromatic compounds.
