Preliminary Economic Analysis of Lurgi Plant Producing 250Million Scfd Gas from New Mexico Coal.

An economic evaluation was made of an integrated plant sized and designed to produce 250million scfd of 934-Btu gas by a Lurgi gasification system followed by shift conversion,purification,and a methanation system. The total capital investment is estimated to be $737,538,000or $2,950/1000 scfd of gas production capacity. On the basis of a 330-day operating year for the plant and allowing credit for sulfur,ammonia,tar oil,and naphtha produced,the selling price of the gas/1000scf of product is given with coal cost and discounted cash flow rates as parameters.
