The final result of the predebonation development or burning is the formation of a shock wave, which causes detonation of the explosive if the wave amplitude reaches a value equal to the caitionl initiation pressure (pcr). Analysis of the transition to detonation is impossible without knowledge of the critical initiation pressures. Shock wave initiation has recently been subjected to intensive study, particularly with regard to determining the sensitivity of various explosives to shock initiation.
